The Friends of Kinder Farm Park (FoKFP) is a 501(c)3 advocacy group that supports the Park through fund-raising and volunteer activities that include or have included, but are not limited to: Working with the county to plan the park Visitors Center (opened in 2010) and provide Kinder Park Sawmill wood for cabinets, furniture, and creating displays in the Exhibit Hall. Organizing numerous volunteers, who provided thousands of hours over two and a half years to restore the Henry Kinder Farmhouse that opened spring of 2014. For more about the history of the Kinder family’s life on the farm, click here. Establishing the FoKFP Historical Society, a standing committee which maintains the Kinder Family Farmhouse and provides volunteer docents to conduct tours every second Saturday of the month and for special events for hundreds of annual visitors. Meet the Kids – a popular spring event to introduce all the newborn farm animals which are cared for by the Kinder Farm Park 4H Livestock club and the FoKFP Livestock Group. Easter Egg Hunt – another popular spring event open to 300 children. Fall Harvest Festival – held in early October, this is the biggest fundraiser of the year and most popular. Over 400 volunteers help the Friends host between 15 and 20 thousand visitors. Jingle Bell Hayride – held on the first Saturday in December, is our annual holiday event held for about 600 visitors includes hayrides, marshmallow roasting, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Speakers Series – held three or four times a year, speakers are invited to present topics of interest to our membership and the community. Past topics have included: Three Gener-ations of Kinder Farming, Birds of Kinder Farm Park, First Front, the B&O Railroad during the Civil War, and Managing Gardens and Landscapes. Supporting other Kinder Farm Park projects and organizations, such as: Helping to fund and supply Sawmill wood to Boy Scout Eagle Projects in the park Providing insurance for the KFP 4H Livestock Club Providing information about the activities of other park associated organizations in the Friend’s quarterly newsletter entitled Down on the Farm, which is emailed to over 250 folks, posted on our website. and copies made available to park visitors.
